Art Musings

Beppie Weiss | beppie.net

Dear Art Friends,

I have just a short letter for you this month. The ArtiFactory is having a Plein Aire paint out on Sunday the 25th on the lawn in front of Old Capitol. We will paint around the area from 10-1, then adjourn to the ArtiFactory gallery to see the great Plein Aire exhibit, have lunch, and visit with friends.

Plein Air
John Evans, Beppie Weiss, Victoria Fosmo, Robert Richardson, Karen Cooper, Omer Sanan,
Lauretta Kelley, Carlos Maldonado, Andrea Smisek Gage, Lianne Westcot & Jeff Allen.

Board member Andrea Gage will be holding the first of her summer “Plein Aire pop ups“ at the same time. She will introduce you to the joys and frustrations of painting outdoors. If you have never done it and want to give it a try, now’s your chance. All ages welcome.

You are all invited to join in the fun, and if you think you might come to lunch, please contact Beppie to RSVP so I know how much bologna to buy.

Plein Air Painters

I have a follow up to the Tiffany window story in last months newsletter for you. There was a lot of publicity about the salvage and discovery of authenticity, and the seller who was going to trash them wanted more. This did get resolved and they will get a percentage of the sale after expenses are accounted for. There was only one bid however….$100,000 plus $23,000 for the auction house for each window. “Disappointing” according to all accounts. The purchaser is anonymous so the future of the rose windows is unknown.

And one last bit for this month….. ArtiFactory is going on vacation for July and August. Our usual programs will resume in September, but until then we will be meeting on Saturday mornings to paint “en plein aire”. Locations will be announced so any one who wants to may join in. Locations will be announced on our web page as well as cancellations due to weather or other factors.

I hope to see a lot of you on the 25th. Be well and make art.

Figures in a Scene

[civievent_widget title=”with Jo Myers-Walker” wtheme=”divider” divider=” | ” limit=20 summary=0 event_type_id=15]

The figure is captivating and expressive but is in need of a sense of place. We will be working from photos, sketches as well as still life setups. Omer Sanan and Jo Myers-Walker will demonstrate techniques in drawing, watercolor and monochromatic value studies. There will be a short demo leaving time for walk arounds while the paint is drying. In an atmosphere of fun and enjoyment we can all learn from each other.

Join us for life drawing in the lower level of 120 N. Dubuque St., Iowa City, IA. Bring your own drawing materials which can include graphite, charcoal, pastels or watercolors. Acrylics, water-based oils, and regular oils using odorless terpenoid will be allowed. We will be drawing from nude, scantily clothed or dressed models. Must be over 18 to attend.

Please register for each session.

Body Parts

Beppie Weiss  will share her drawing experience of the human body. She has drawn and painted hundreds, maybe thousands, of portraits and people drawings, and will help you improve your own drawing skills. Our goal will be to understand how it all comes together, and be able to draw it with more accuracy.

Foiling Studio Group

Maybe you are a First-time Foiler or returning for Foiled Again! Experience fine art foiling in our studio group. The creation of foiled paperworks typically involves the use of metallic or pigmented foil to add decorative elements to your artwork. This could include adding metallic accents to drawings or paintings, or using foil to create unique textures or patterns on the surface of the art piece.
