Catharine Otto
Catharine’s artistic journey started at a young age and she has always gravitated to three dimensional and textural pieces. With a desire to explore art inspired by her heritage, and looking for a new creative outlet, in 2020 she found wheat work. A chance bag of wheat helped propel her desire forward and her first wheat project was a Saint Brigid’s cross. Catharine loves to research and seek out the history of this work, appreciates information others have passed on, and finds great joy in uncovering new information and creative colleagues along the way. Through this exploration, Catharine has a deep connection to working with all types of grain, she enjoys the rhythm of the process fiber art encourages you to explore, and she feels a strong intuitive pull to bring this art form forward for others to experience it too.
Catharine lives in Iowa City with her husband Rob, where she can be found working in her home studio with wheat and other art mediums including metal.
