Overview:

This series of Hot Stamp Foiling workshops celebrates the unique technique pioneered by University of Iowa Art Professor Virginia Myers. Open to participants of all levels, this series guides you through the fundamentals of foiling and encourages creative exploration with a variety of methods. Each session features a distinct focus, showcasing the versatility of this fascinating medium.

Session Details:

Session 1: Mastering the Basics

• Introduction to hot stamp foiling
• Applying polymer to paper: Techniques and nuances
• Selecting the right paper and polymer
• Color transfer using the hot press
• Color mixing and creating personalized designs

Session 2: Incorporating Stencils and Objects

• Using stencils for controlled application
• Adding textured materials (like plants) to create interesting effects
• Techniques to limit color application for precise designs

Session 3: Advanced Techniques – Omitting and Occluding

• Utilizing printer ink, fine-point glue, and pencil graphite to omit/occlude areas
• Creating intricate patterns with relief printing from self-assembled textured or raised designs
• Bringing depth and complexity to your foiling projects

Materials Provided:

• Foiling-ready paper
• A variety of foil colors
• Stencil paper and printed images for practice
• Special paints and tools for relief printing
• Tools such as scissors, paintbrushes, glue, and more
