The ArtiFactory presented a talk on the unique printmaking process of Hot Stamped Foil Imaging as part of its “Art in the Afternoon” series on Sunday Nov. 21, 2021. in the ArtiFactory gallery, located on the lower level of 120 N. Dubuque St. in Iowa City. Artworks created using that process were on exhibit in the gallery through Dec.19, 2021.
Hot Stamped Foil Imaging was invented at the University of Iowa by longtime Art Department faculty member Virginia A. Myers, creator of the Iowa Foil Printer. The late Prof. Myers was a distinguished teacher and artist whose invention brought recognition not only to her but to the University of Iowa School of Art. The presentation was given by local artist and former UI instructor Deanne Wortman, who served as studio assistant to Prof. Myers and taught foil imaging after Myers retired. She discussed its history, showed examples of work by her and Myers’ students, and premiere new creations by participants in a Foil Imaging workshop she recently taught at ArtiFactory. The gallery exhibit will feature works by Wortman and the workshop students. Watch this video of her presentation.
